As the school year winds to a close with final exams right around the corner, the Environmental Club was able to finally spare enough time at our last club meeting of the year to complete our bottle cap mural. It now sits framed in Mrs. Kramer's Environmental Science classroom to be appreciated by future environmental science students.

For World Water Day, March 22nd, Environmental Club hosted a blind water taste test and water bottle competition in the Upper School. Students were able to taste 6 different waters (including several brands of bottled and a sample of the school's tap water) and results were analyzed and shared with the student body. Interestingly, there was no statistical difference owonf preference between the tap and several brands of bottled water. The only significant result was that the student's strongly disliked Deer Park brand! The Junior class won brownies for having brought the most reuseable drinking containers to school. Our goal is to continue both of these events in the future so that the student body reduces it's plastic water bottle consumption.
In advance of Earth Day, which took place during our Easter break this year, the Environmental Club planted a new Pollinator Garden at the front of the Upper School (full of native plants) as well as several new winterberry bushes near our Red Bud tree from our Arbor Day planting. Meanwhile, Ms. Varat's 5th grade classes have been fully utilizing the new Wetland Lab to explore macrofauna and native plants here on campus. Future Environmental Club members hopefully! |
